AGITATION IN SAMOA

ORGANISERS OF PETITION SEEKING SUPPORT OF NATIVES (Rec. November 16, 5.5 p.m.) Suva, November 16. A political meeting was held at Apia on Friday, there being two hundred Natives and Europeans present. The elected members endeavoured to induce the Natives to combine with the Europeans in a petition to the Minister. A letter was read from the Administrator warning the promoters against interference with the Natives. Tlie Planters’ Association did not support the meeting Many Europeans left the meeting, which decided to send delegates to New Zealand if support were forthcoming. The meeting subscribed £3. No recognised leader of the Samoan race was present. Fiapules did not attend. The agitation is alleged to lie traceable to six disgruntled individuals.
