Major R. Miles, D. 5.0., M.C., R.N.Z.A., returned to Wellington yesterday morning from the south. Mr. D. G. Sullivan, M.P., was a passenger by the ferry boat from Lyttelton yesterday morning. Signor Bidone, Consul-General for the Argentine, left for Auckland by the Limited last evening. The Hon. J. B. Gow, M.L.C., was a passenger for the north by the Limited last evening. Colonel Pow (Wellington) is attending the Royal Agricultural Show at Auckland. Mr. D. G. Neaish, of the firm of Messrs. Peek, Frcau and Company, Limited, London, is visiting Wellington. Mr. Neaish, who arrived from Australia yesterday, is making a tour of the world, and left England last December. Mr. Robert Newman, manager of the Queen’s Hall Orchestra, Loudon, died recently. Mr. Newman inaugurated the orchestra about 25 years ago, and arranged to finance it. There was at the time said to be no great demand in London for orchestral music, but he determined to provide the supply, and the demand grew up round it. It was Mr. Newman who “discovered” Sir Henrv Wood, who began as a “prodigy” organist, and it was Mr. Newman who gave to Sir Henry Wood the opportunity which resulted in his becoming so famous a figure among the musicians of the world. Mr, Hugh J. Ward, theatrical entrepreneur, arrived from Sydney by the Ulimaroa yesterday. Mr. J. Fuller chairman of directors of John Fuller and Sons, will arrive from Auckland by the Limited express to-day’. News has been received of the death of' Lord Chichester, a director of the firm of Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Limited. __________
