ZOOLOGICAL SOCIETY
ANNUAL MEETING. . The sixteenth annual meeting of the Wellington. Zoological Society was held ou Monday evening, Mr. T; Fathers presiding. The report recorded with much satisfaction the Indian Government’s promise to present a young female elephant for the zoo, and the offer of the Canadian National Parks authority to present a pair of buffalo. It was stated that the buffalo would arrive shortly, and the elephant a little later. The balance-sheet showed the members’ subscriptions totalled £5 10s, and donations for special purposes £lO. The year ended with cash iu hand totalling just on £26. The president congratulated the society on the work of the past year, and expressed the opinion lhat the cooperation of the Government with the society and the City Council'would considerably help to improve the Wellington Zoo. The election of officers resulted as follows: Patron, Sir Robert Stout; vicepatron, Mr. C. J. B. Norwood; president, -Mr. T. Fathers vice-presidents, 'Rev. Archdeacon Devoy, Rev. Dr. Pinfold, Hon. R. A. Wright, M.P., Dr. E. Anderson, Sir John Luke, M.P., Messrs. R. Brown, E. Read, H. A. Parkinson, R. Darroch and W. A. Worth; honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr. J. Castle; honorary auditor, Mr. R. Brown; executive council, Mesdames Fathers, Castle, Pollock, Underwood, Messrs. E. Arnold, J. Pollock, R. H. Chinchen, E. Collie, A. J. Martin, H. J. Crewes, R. Ferguson, A. Parker, G. Fownes, M. G. Grenside, F. Bennett, A. Crosby, W. A. Worth, J. T. Rush, C. Lindsay, and J. Langridge. It was "decided to offer to purchase one pair of Ladv Amherst pheasants if the City Council would agree to purchase one pair of silver pheasants for the zoo.
