At the inquest on Olaff Trapp, boatswain of the Apanui, who was knocked down on October 27 by a motor lorrydriven by James Irvine Dines, the latter stated that he was passing a stationary cart at a slow speed when deceased stepped from behind the cart and the guard rail on the radiator struck him. A front wheel passed over him. A verdict of accidental death was returned.
