INFECTIOUS DISEASES
DISTRICT NOTIFICATIONS
Forty-eight eases of infectious diseases were reported to the district health authorities for the week ended at noon yesterday, this being a decrease ol 16 when compared with the returns for the previous seven days. Both scarlet fever and diphtheria showed an easing oil in all the districts. Details of cases reported in the various hospital districts are as follow, last week’s figures being given in parentheses:— Taranaki-Horowhenua: Scarlet fever, 1 (2) ; diphtheria, 3 (6) ; enteric fever, 2 (2) ; tuberculosis, 2 (2) ; erysipelas, 1 (2) ; pneumonia, 2 (5) ; lethargic encephalitis, 0 (1); total, 11 (20). Wairarapa-East Cape: Scarlet fever, 4 (4); diphtheria, 6 (5) ; enteric fever, 5 (3) ; tuberculosis, 2 (2) ; pneumonia, 1 (1) ; erysiphelns, 0 (1) ; puerperal fever, 0 (2); total, 18 (18). Central Wellington: Scarlet fever, 0 (11); diphtheria, 3 (4); tuberculosis, 1 (3) ; 'erysipelas, 2 (1) ; pneumonia, 1 (0) ; lethargic encephalitis, 3 (0) ; cere-bro-spinal meningitis, I (0) ; poliomyelitis, 0 (1) : puerperal fever, 0 (1); septic abortion. 0 (2) ; total, 17 (23).
