Twelve meetings of the claims committee of the Otago Patriotic Association were held during the quarter ended October 31, 220 applications being dealt with. Twenty-four applications were declined, it being evident, after a full investigation, that the assistance required could not be granted. Forty-seven applications were received from ex-soldiers, the responsibility of various societies throughput the Dominion, and were dealt with in accordance with the wishes of the societies concerned. Grants totalling £3Bl ss. 3d. were made to sixtyfour applicants, and in fifty-five cases weekly allowances were authorised at a total expenditure of £648 10s. In three cases the conditions regarding repayment of loans were varied, at the request of the borrowers. During the quarter the sum of £195 was expended on cases not recognised as suffering as the result of war service.
