AMATEUR ATHLETICS

ANNUAL COUNCIL MEETING. The thirty-fifth annual meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Council was held last night. Mr. R. W. McVilly presided. Mr. Ki Connop, delegate from the West Coast of the North Island, who was recently married, was presented with a time-piece and a salad bowl. ■'The vear just ended has been a notable one, both in respect to athletics and the finance of the council,” said the president, in proposing the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet. Referring to Rose’s trip to England, be said .- that nobody was more disappointed at his lack of success than Robo himself, but the failure to reproduce his New Zealand form was due to his having insufficient time to acclimatise himself. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £283 18s, 3d. Mr. G. H-. Lusk, who seconded the motion, reported that the Reddell Memorial would be ready for the rext championship mooting. Mr. E. G. Guv told of the progress cf country clubs, more particularly those of Napier and Gisborne. The motion was carried unanimously. The following officers were elected Patron, the Gcvernor-Genoral; president, Mr. ft. W. McVilly; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. G. H. Lusk and H. Austad; delegates to Olympic Council. Messrs. A. W. O. Travers, and R. W. McVilly: hon. auditor, Mr. R. W. Sballerass ; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. R. A. Tracy; reinstatement committee. Messrs. E. G. Guy, G. H. Lusk, and FI. Austad: finance committee, Messrs. R. W. McVilly, H. Austad, and H. M. Franklyn; overseas delegates, England Mr. A. F. Porritt; South Africa, Mr. Emeny: U.S.A., Messrs. Krogness. sen and jun. The 1927-28 New Zealand championships were allocated to Canterbury. The Australasian championships were fixed for December 26. 27, and 31. 1927. An honorarium of £l5 15s. was voted to the lion secretary, the chairman remarking that this was merely a slight token of the council’s appreciation of his services.
