The Minister of Public Works made a tour of the coastal road to-day as far as Fox’s river, where further progress was held up by flood. He returned to town and visited Seddonvillo, Tn the | afternoon, deputations were heard and in the evening be was present at a largely attended public meeting, over which the Mayor presided. The speakers all dealt with various phases of flood damage and relief for sufferers, river erosion, the Buller Gorge railway and the coastal road. The Minister in reply promised to place the representations before his colleagues and also stated that he had instructed the engineer-in-chief to stay in the district and make a more extended examination of the river with ’ a view to preventing as far as possible a recurrence of the disaster that overtook the town on Novembor 5.
