TWO HORSES LOST 1 ■ ■ ' ■ - • • ' By TELSGHAI’U.— I’KF.SS ASSOCIATION. ■ Gisborne, November 14. ■ Shortly after ‘J o'clock on Saturday night a 'fire broke out in the training stable of A. E; Butterworth at Tehapara, a suburb of Gisborne. When the brigade arrived one stable containing an Our King—Golconda filly named Strata, owned by Mr. J. S. Kirkpatrick, was a mass of flames, and the horse was burnt to death. The flames spread rapidly to the next box containing a,three-year-old colt named Lee Fong, by Autumn, owned by Mr. A. Fraser. The horse was so badly burned that it had to be destroyed. The flames then spread to the chaff house, which was badly damaged. On the otliei side of the chaff house were three stables containing Scotch ’Mixture, Rapiata, and Superb King.' Willing helpers rushed and opened the doors as soon as the flames were first seen, and these three horses escaped, though Scotch Mixture was somewhat knocked about. Particulars regarding insurance are not available.
