AUCKLAND EXCITED
News from Auckland regarding the final stages of the Miss New Zealand Beautv Contest indicates that the excitement in the northern city over the prospects of candidates is intense. Naturally the Auckland people are very much wrapped up in their own candidates, and the process of elimination is being carried out at fever heat. Each of the four finalists having their admirers and champions. It is interesting to note that the Wellington candidates, Miss McCubbin and Miss Wilson have created a most favourable impression, and have received flattering receptions each evening from the large audiences before which they appear. .Miss Otago is regarded in some quarters as being , a formidable rival, and the other contestants each have’their supporters It is now generally conceded that however Miss Wellington .is fairly certain to secure one of the two places in the final selection of Miss New Zealand and her Maid of Honour. Tins, however, is merely speculation for the final decision is entirely in the hands of the judges.
PROSPECTS OF THE CANDIDATES
The position now reached is that Auckland audiences have to choose Miss Auckland and her Maid of Honour. The voting for this stage closes next irriday evening. On the following day the two finalists from each centre will go before the judges, and Miss New Zealand will then be chosen from their number.
Yesterday the judges from the various centres, with the exception of Wellington, were announced .Auckland has appointed Mr. Fisher, of the School of Art; Christchurch will be • represented bv Dr. Jessie Scott; Dunedin by Mr G. A Wvcherlev, and Mr. Louis Cohen, of Wanganui, will be the fifth judge.- We hope to be able to announce the Wellington representative on Monday mptn T ing. These judges will have an. entirely free hand. Thev will meet the eight? finalists,-talk with them, lunch with them, get to know them personally, and judge them on their merits. _ On Saturda.v evening next their decision as. to who is best entitled to bear the distinction of Miss New Zealand will be made known.
