The effect of the unemployment on the citv finances is shown strikingly in the" half-yearly statement of the municipal ..trading departments? The revenue 'throughout showed an increase'of £3.1,345, but the expenditure’ showed an increase of £45,038, the net profit being £13,693 less than for the same period of last year. This position is. explained, bv the fact ..that in helping, the unemployed the departments kept on excessive, staffs they no longer needed with the end of the Exhibition, thus doing in six months work usually taking a year. ? .
