PRISONERS SENTENCED Palmerston North, November 12. “I have ascertained that before 1912 prisoner practically led the life of a vagrant and thief,” said His Honour Mr. Justice Reed in the Supreme Court this morning, in dealing with the case of John Alexander McGregor, who had been found guilty of theft from the person. In proceeding to traverse accused s record His Honor said that McGregor had gone to the war, and since his return nothing in particular had been known against him. However, the class of crime for which accused had been convicted was one which could not be allowed to go unpunished, and accused would accordingly be sentenced to one year’s imprisonment, with hard labour. TYPE NOT WANTED. “Your tvpe is not wanted in New Zealand, and I strongly advise you to leave the country as soon as your term of imprisonment is completed,” said His Honour in sentencing, to 18 months’ imprisonment, with hard labour, Neils Peder Sorensen Hansen, found guilty of assault with intent to rob. His Honour observed that prisoner came to New Zealand in 1923, and since then had been more or less a trouble to the authorities. z
