Auckland, November 11. A five-roomed, house at Takapuna, owned and occupied by Joseph Moor, was destroyed by fire last night. Mrs. Moor was awakened by something falling, and found the bedroom full of smoke. She woke her husband, and both made a hurried escape. The house was insured for £6OO and the furniture for £250.

OUTBREAK IN SAWMILL. Palmerston North, November 12 Tho promptness of an automatic alarm saved a serious fire at Cook’s Sawmill this evening. The brigade received a call at 8.45 p.m., and found that a fire had broken out amongst shavings and fuel in the. boiler house, but. it was suppressed before any damage had been done.
