Downie Stewart), accompanied by Miss Stewart, will leave to-night for Dunedin, where they will remain for about ten days or a fortnight. Mr. Albert Goldie, a well-known business man of Sydney, is a visitor to Wellington. ' Professors Shelley (Canterbury Col'lege) ' arid Rankirie-Brown and Hunter (Victoria College) . arrived from '' the north ’yesterday, after attending the meeting, of the -Board of Studies. Sir Harold Beauchamp arrived yesterday from .Auckland after a trip abroad.- He was accompanied by Lady Beauchamp. The Hon. L. M. Isitt arrived from the north yesterday. Mr. J. B. Harcourt, accompanied by Miss Harcourt, arrived back, in Wellington yesterday after a trip to San Francisco.
The Rev. G.' Brown, of Onehunga,. celebrated his 96th birthday yesterday. In the morning the member of Parliament for Manukau (Mr. W. J. Jordan) and Messrs. J.'E.‘ Cowell (Mayor) and J. E.' Green waited upon Mr. Brown and conveyed to him greetings from the people of Onehunga.—Special correspondent. Mr., C. H. Hain, LL.B., lias been appointed to the position of lecturer in jurisprudence, Roman Jaw, etc., at Victoria University College. Mr. C. R. Stevens, sales manager of Armstrong’s, Ltd., Christchurch, and who was' previously drapery manager of the Farmers’ Union Trading Companv, Auckland, has been appointed assistant manager of „ Kirkcaldie and Stains, Ltd. Mr. W. E. Dickinson, M.A.-.., has been appointed assistant master at the Lower Hutt School.
Aiderman W. M. Cookville, of. the Melbourne City Council, was a visitor to the City Council last evening.
