ROAD SEALING BY CONTRACT
SUBSIDIARY . STREETS TO RETREATED , The works committee t.e com mended to the City Council last night that authority be granted' for the expenditude of £3OOO in surface sealing about three miles; of j subsidiary streets in the city, and ; that tenders be called for this work.' Councillor. H,-. DC Bennett said the proposal followed the experience of sealing';,stretches of road it Hataitai and elsewhere;;, which had been carefully matched, and" had proved very satisfactory,lt was not proposed to take the money out of loan, but out of ordinary revenue. The roads to be sealed Swere Hataitai Road, Waitoa Road, Kelburn Parade, -Upland Road, Lower Hill Street, Mqlesworth Street, Murphy "Street, Motorua Street,Mulgraye street, Davis Street, Hobson Street, Upper Abet Smith Street, North, land Road, Palmer Street, and one side of Fitzherbert -Terrace. It was-tnentioned that the work was being . done under recommendation of the engineers, as only such roads as were suited in formation to the work cpuld be treated. Councillor R. McKeeji thought that the £3OOO could .be better spent on some of ; the footpaths ! of the city, which in some instances were a positive menace to pedestrians. Councillor 11. D. Bennett said that most of the streets wanted remetalling once in-twelve months, and that cost 3s. to 4s. a yard, whilst the sealing proposed only cost Is. a yard, so that it was really an economic way of cleaning the Streets and settling the dust, nuisance. : ?. The proposal was agreed to.
