MURCHISON FLOOD DAMAGE
■ SET-BACK'TO DAIRYING INDUSTRY Dominion Special. Nelson, November 11. Further particulars of the damage caused in the Murchison district by last week’s flood were obtained by' a DOMINION representative as the' result of personal investigation. The ’ outstanding facts are that the flood was the biggest within the memory of the white man, that a large area of the heart of the dairy country lias been silted, and that as a consequence feed will be short until next season, and herds will have to be reduced in the meantime, causing a temporary setback to the dairy industry. The Murchison County Council, witn no money at its command, is faced with an expenditure of a 1! least £lO/100 to repair the ravages, of the flood. The main highwav from Longford to the eight-mile (under the jurisdiction of the-Main Highways Board), has been damaged to the extent of some £7OOO. It is hoped that through traffic to the .coast will be re-established shortly. Recoiistruction of. the Newton bridge will be the- biggest work, but with roads once clear' cars can transfer passengers at the' bridge. ■
