REDFERN MURDER
AVES COMMITTED FOR TRIAD. (Rec. May 4, 8.40 p.m.) Sydney, May 4. At ar inquest on Mrs. Quirk, the victim of the Redfern tragedy, Alice Quirk, who was badly injured, gave evidence. She said Aves several times asked her to marry him. When she refused he said no one else would get her. On the night of the tragedy he again asked her, and she again refused. She then went to bed with her mother. Later she was awakened by a noise, and saw a man, whom she believed to be Aves, standing in the room. She became frightened, pulled the bedclothes over her head, and did not remember anything more till she found herself in hospital. The Coroner returned a verdict of murder against Aves, whom he committed for trial.—Press Assn. (Mrs. Quirk and her daughter were attacked bv a man with a tomahawk, earl’’ on the morning of March 12. and the former died shortly after admission to hospital.)
