CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
WIDER MEMBERSHIP WANTED.
“The membership at January 1, 1925, numbered 499, and 31 members have been added since the _ beginning of the year, making a total membership at the present date (early April) of 533” (says the annual report of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce). “We would like to «ee members of the chamber interest other business and professional men in its activities, and endeavour to enrol these as members, which would considerably strengthen our organisation. Circulars to -members have not aroused the enthusiasm we would prefer to see, and the appointment of a membership canvasser ntay e have to be considered so that wc may ensure progressive increase! in membership. “While our members have increased slowly find surely, we must make comment on the number of business men who have so far failed to interest themselves in the Chamber of Commerce and to give it their practical support. These business men, while ever ready to compliment the chamber of the good work it is doing, and ever ready to take, the benefits and concessions ‘hat have been secured by Chamber of Commerce action, (do not exhibit a great keenness to assist it in a practical manner. It must be-patent that the extent of Chamber of Commerce activities is measured bv the limits imposed by its finances, and with a wide membership greater facilities and services are brought within reach, and greater benefits and concessions can be secured.
