HOCKEY
WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION. Mr. R. L. Thompson presided over a meeting of the AVellington Hockey Association last night. 'flic Training College advised that it intended entering an additional team, making one team in c-i/?li grade. The AVellington Hockey Referees’ Association wrote asking that an appeal be made to clubs for referees, and also for a donation from the clubs. It was decided to forward A donation of £3 35., and to take the matter of referees up with the clubs. Mr. L. Butcher, delegate from the W.H.A., to the annual conference, advised that lie had suggested on behalf of the association that the match with Australia at Wellington should be a 'Test, and not a provincial match, as this would save considerable expense, most of the players being present at the annual tournament. It was agreed tli.it Wellington should apply formally for tiie Test match. A letter was received from the New Zealand Association stating that an invitation bad been sent to an Australian team to visit New Zealand. It was suggested that the team should leave Sydnev on July 10, and return from Wellington on August 11. It was proposed that tiie team should play one 'I est and eight ordinary matches. The association stated th?! it had been advised that- tiie team would be niueh stronger than the 11122 tourists. Tiie N.Z.H.A. also wrote suggesting that a donation should lie received from each player in Australia and New Zealand, to purchase the Alanning Memorial Cup. It was decided to give consideration to the suggestion.
