CLASSIC STYLE OF BATTING AUSTRALIAN AND ENGLISH PLAYERS COMPARED / London, May 1. J. B. Hobbs, in his second article in the “Daily News,” claims that English batsmen maintain their classic style more successfully than do Australians. He says: “We were repeatedly astonished to see Australian batsmen connecting when playing with a cross bat at a leg-spin ball, whereas Englishmen would have got right on to the pitch of the ball with a straight bat in orthodox fashion. The Australians seemed able to judge how the ball was coming. Probably after a couple of years’ experience in Australia we shall be able to hit for four many of the ball» which went unpunished. I am convinced that the unorthodox Australians will make a sorry mess of things on English wickets ’unless they alter their tactics. They should be able to alter their style, but onh\ after diligent practice and work.” The oracle considers that J. M. Taylor and Warren Bardsley are Australia’s best batsmen.—Sydney "Sun” Cable.
