HUTT VALLEY PUPILS
EXCLUSION FROM COLLEGE CRITICISED. "The children resident in \tlie Hutt Valley were again exc, hided from the Wellington College.” states the annual report of the Eastern Hutt School Committee, "and this came as a very unpleasant shock io parents who had been building their hop°s on the prospects of sending their children to the only high schools proper in the Wellington district. The reason • given was that there existed a regulation whereby children could be compelled to attend the district high school nearest to which they reside. Is this a s-aniiplo of the treatment that the parents are liable to receive when the whole of the educational system has been placed entirely into the hands of the officials of the Education apartment? ... It is in the hands of the parents as a whole to /see to it that their rights (including a reasonable choice of school to whiqh they may send tlmir children) are not taken away from them. The only .hopeful part about the secondary education for the Hutt Valiev is that there is at. last n prospect of the Hutt Valley High Schoo] proper being erected. The committee, have been given to understand that a contract has been let. and that Hie building will include not fewer than light classrooms, as those who are in a position .to judge such, matters are finally of Hie opinion that six classrooms will prove quite inadequate for the requirements of the High School if it is ready for occupation next February.”
