HARRIERS

HUTT VALLEY CLUB. Some forty members of the Hutt Valley (Hub turned out for the official opening run from the Bay Street bathing sheds last Saturday. Though the weather was windy and wet it did not prevent Iho runners enjoying themselves. ' Mr. Goddard, club president, opened the season with a few well chosen remarks and then dispatched t.ho runners on their way. The trail lay along the beach, round Gear Island, and back via Colin Street and the Esplanajile. A 200 yard run in resulted in a win for J. Cunningham, with W. Winnie second and N. Craig third. The new runners, of which the club has many, shower! good style and action, though how they will shape in a race yet remains.to be seen. Next week the 'run will bo from the Hutt Park and will commence at 2.30 p.m. sharp. Entries • for the novio race the following week will close with the secretary next Saturday. SCOTTISH CLUB. Eighteen runners turned out to the Scottish Club’s run, which was held at Island Bay on Saturday. Paper was dispensed with, and the runners, led by Deputy-Captain VWil, took a course up Sevcrne Street and from halfway up the hill cut off and followed the ridges over to Happy Valley Road and then down to the beach. The run-in was started from here, the result being .Melrose 1, Silver 2. and Whitehouse _3. The run next Saturday is, by the invitation of Mesdames Warring and Silver, being held at Worser Bay.
