NEW ZEALAND BISLEY

OPENS AT TRENTHAM TO-DAY COMPETITORS NUMBER 300 (By Telesraph.—Special Reporter.) Trentham, April 39. Up to this evening 296 entries had been received for tho annual prize-firing .meeting of the National Rifle Association of Naw Zealand, and with some to come in to-morrow the total will reach the 300 mark. This is a very satisfactory response from rifle shooting men throughout the country, especially wlwn it is considered that tho meeting has had to be postponed two months from the original dat«6 on account of the , epidemic of infantile paralysis. There is no doubt that tho large entry (50 above last year) is due in great measure to the substantia] support given the association by the Government. The £lOOO grant, free ammunition, and free railway passes have all lessened the cost of the meeting to the competitors, with the result that they have turned up for their annual holiday nt Trentham from all parts of the country. All that is now required for a successful meeting is fine weather. A very large number of new faces arc to bo seen, and many of the. old shots of" New Zealand also have arrived, including 11. Head (Whangarei) and AV. Winslade—both old Netv Zztalantl representatives —11. L. Frank, F. Ching. AV. Cuthbertson, Al'ajor Potter, and others. Former belt-winners are AV. Duncan, F. fl. James. It. J. King, J. Atilroy, D. Roots, and H. Simmonds. The present holder, H. A'. Croxton, of the Karori Club, is unable to shoot owing to having eye trouble, and AV. N. Alasefield is also an absentee. Tho various district "champions are also present, and many teams will compole. The meeting will commence to-morrow with the service shooting series, which will be completed, and the. opening match of the deli berate series will be taken. This match does not count for the Belt, but it commences the Trentham (short range) aggregate. Shooting will commence at 8 30 a.m. The meeting is in charge of Colonel. R.
