RIFLE SHOOTING

DOMINION CHA M PION SHIP TROPHIES. From Our Own Correspondent Carterton, December 20. The executive committee of the Wairarapa Rifle Association met at Greytown yesterday afternoon. It was explained that letters had been received from various parts of .New Zealand suggesting that the association, now that the D.R.A. meeting had been cancelled, should apply io the authorities to have the Championship Belt and other Dominion trophies allotted to the Wairarapa rifle meeting. A suggested difficulty in regard to tho range was referred to Mr. Thompson for decision. It was announced that several letters had passed between the chairman, Colonel Collins, and Mr. H. Marshall regarding tho Wairarapa Association taking up the running of the D.R.A. meeting. Tho D.R.A. executive was favourable to tho belt, shields, and other trophies being competed for, though it was pointed out that the Government had decided to cut out railway passes and ammunition. It wns considered that the association should make some sacrifice io have the belt competed for in the Wairarapa this season. The association did not want to jeopardise its credit balance, but if it could roly on sufficient entries, the meeting would be self-supporting. It was suggested that tho meeting should extend over fivo or six days, and that. the nrize-money be the same as was given last year.

A sub-committee was appointed to confer with representatives of the D.R.A. at Wellington, and to' present a report to tho Wairarapa executive at o. meeting on Friday. It was decided to recommend that at tho proposed large, meeting, the first priz° of .£lO be out out, and that the 25 .£1 prizes be increased to 30, and the 16 .£1 prizes for tyros be increased to 15.
