THE PRINCE IN INDIA
QUIET RECEPTION AT BENARES NEW HINDU UNIVERSITY OPENED By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Rec. December 14, 5.5 p.m.) Delhi, December 13. Although a boycott was proclaimed et Benares on the occasion of the Prince of Wales’s visit, no attempt was made by the agitators to in any way interfere with tho programme. Tho chief function was tho opening of the new Hindu University building. Numbers of students wearing Gandhist caps participated, but listened decorously; otherwise there were very few Indians present. Largo blocks of seats reserved for the public were almost empty. All shops ,in the city were closed. The Prince was the guest of the Maharajah of Benares, and attended a State luncheon. He visited places of interest round the city and inspected the troops, and left in the evening for Nepal for a week’s shooting.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
