The death took place at: Mount Eden, Auckland, on Monday,. of Mrs. Elizabeth Baker, in her 94th year. The deceased lady came to the Dominion in tho early ’.forties in the Lord William Bentinck, a small sailer liclonging to Uh“ Moray Wigram Line. She was left a widow 53 years ago, her husband dying in a. house in Willis Street, upon the site now occupied by the Willis Street School. Mrs. Baker was a native of England, having been born in Maidstone. Kent. The annual picnic of the Lyall Bay Public School will be held on Monday next at Day’s Bay. The Duchess has been engaged' to carry the scholars from the Miramar Wharf to the picnic ground. An. engine of tho London-to-Bristol express makes what is claimed to be the world's record speed for a long run. The train covers tho 91 miles between Southall and Badmington at an average speed of nearly 63 miles an hour, 17 miles being at nearly 79 miles an hour.
