NEW SOUTH WALES POLITICS
DOMINATION OF AUSTRALIAN WORKERS’ UNION.
Sydney, December 9.
The political crisis is regarded as a sequel to the pulse-testing of the municipal elections. There has been an unmistakably growing public feeling that since Mr. Storey’s restraining influence has been removed the Labour Party, is under the. domination of the Australian Workers’ Union. This is shown by the inclination to press legislative action alono - some lines beyond acceptabla bounds. The threatened further large increase in taxation also came as a heavy blow. The electorates generally would probably welcome a dissolution and an appeal to' the people.—Press Assn.
RENEWED EFFORTS TO SECURE A SPEAKER. (Rec. December 10,, 1.10 a.m.) Sydney, December 9.
There have been no developments in tho political situation. It is stated that the Government is continuing its efforts to secure a Speaker. One member announced in the Press that he declined an offer on behalf of the Labour Party of the Speakership and also the chairmanship of the Forestry Commission at the termination of the present 1 arliament. Mr. Dooley denies that any such offer has 'been made on behalf of the Government. . . Providing that no solution is reached! before the Assembly meets on Tuesday, it is suggested that a temporary Speaker be agreed upon in order to overcome difficulties arising from the Estimates and other essential matters being hung up. It is considered that whatever may happen short of a dissolution it will be practically impossible for any party to carry on, and that the only proper solution is a dissolution. Labour considers that with a long list of measures blocked in the two houses, some of them being of special interest io workers-particularly the Motherliood Endowment and Basic Wave Bills—the outlook for an appeal to the electorate is bright.—Press Assn.:
