HOW THE MONEY IS SPENT _ ! £280,734 IN EIGHT MONTHS Wellington, is an expensive city to manage, and an idea of how the money goes was given tho City Council in the fegm of a return showing the expenditure for the eight months ended November 80, alongside the estimates for the year 1920-21. In this statement the estimates have already been exceeded. Eor instance, the amount for cleaning and repairs to the Town Hall was set down in the estimates at .£3OOO, but. already Ji4135 has been spent; repairs. to corporation property was estimated at .£2OO, ■but that amount has already been exceeded, with four months still to go. The wages and- expenses in connection with offices (upart from salaries) was estimated at £6500, and already £6196 has been expended- Salaries run into £15,856, of which nearly £12,000 (£ll,907) was paid up to November 30.
