BASIC WAGE BILL
DECISION OF NEW SOUTH WALES CAUCUS.
<(Rec. November 29, 11.30 p.m.) Sydney, November 29. Doubts whether the Government will proceed with the Basic AVage Bill, introduced in the Legislative Assembly, with a. view to restoring the 3s. reduction recently promulgated by the Board of Trade have been solved, a caucus meeting deciding to push the Bill through as soon as possible. It was decided to go even further, and raise tho rural workers’ basic wage to tho same level as the city workers, of .Cl ss. per week. The. Government’s delay in proceeding with tho Bill is attributed to the probable treatment it will receive in the Legislative Council. Tn anti-Labour circles the raising of the rural wage is regarded as a. direct challenge to tho council to slaughter the Bill, thereby providing the Lalwur Party with a handle in tho event of desiring an appeal to the country. —Press Assn.
