Sir, —In to-day’s Dominion there appears a statement by Mr. J. R. Raw, accredited spokesman for the liquor trade, contesting a statement recently made by the Rev. J. Comrie. Into the dispute between the two- gentlemen I do not wish to enter, but unfortunately Mr. Raw’went out of his way to characterise prohibition as a dishonest proposal. Why tho liquor champion should speak in such a strain I am at a loss to understand. A dishonest proposal indeed! Some 270,250 electors voted for prohibition, and 241,251 for . liquor at the last poll. Does Mr. Raw really mean that the former voters were so deficient in intelligence, or honesty, that they' voted for a dishonest proposal The liquor trade must be sorely pressed if this is the best reasoning (?) it can submit for its continuance in our midst. —I am, etc., READER.
