THE LATE KENNY BAYNE
Sir, —I have just read with much interest your paragraph headed "One of God’s Heroes,” in which Mr. Aldrich, of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, pays a fitting tribute to the late Kenny Bayne. As one of the comrades of Kenny Bayne, I can fully endorse Mr. Aldrich’s eulogy, likewise the epitaph of the ser-geant-major, "That’s how he lived.’’ That such a memory should bo insulted in the way Mr. Aldrich stales, by the Mayor of Pahintua, passes one's comprehension. hut. nevertheless leaves one boiling with indignation at the thought that a smug provincial, and consequently narrow, official should 'be allowed to so sullv the name of the glorious dead. Who is tho Mayor of Pahiatua that ho should constitute himself judge, of o brave man’s action? Surely the righteous indignation of all returned men, aye, and of those who are not returned
men, sffoiild be aroused by such talk. It is to be hoped that tho association will demand an ample apology from the traducer of one who truly was one of God’s heroes. Apologising for taking up your time and space, though this outburst needs no apology. —I am, etc.. > MAIN BODY. Masterton, November 24.
