THE POSTPONED WOOL SALES

Si r —There is great commotion in the Parliamentary, banking and wool buyers’ world over the postponement of the Wellington and other Dominion wool I know not whether to place the last of the trio first or the first last, but it would be an unmixed blessing if the dispute were never settled, as our wool, in the natural course of events, would then find its way to what is well known to be the best market, nine years out of ten. If there had been no Dominion sales in 1913-14, wool-growers, who as a general rule allow themselves to be led like sheep to the slaughter, would have received about sevenpence per lb. more for their wool under tho commandeer than was vouchsafed to them, and our import and export account would not have been overdrawn, nor would our only wages fund have been depleted to the extent it now is.

We are told that the wool buyers’ limits have been increased. They had much meed to be, as it is computed they have made about per bale out of the quarter million bales of last season’s wool, submitted for sale hero this year, which would have been far better in the pockets of the farmer than the wool speculator, and would have enabled them to pay the 10 per cent, knocked off the 33 1-3 per cent, super land tax. —I am. etc., WILLIAM MILNE.
