FATAL LORRY ACCIDENT

MAN KILLED AT TAWA FLAT LORRY FALLS OVER BANK A fatal motor lorry accident occurred al Tawa Flat yesterday; which resulted in the death of a' man named George' Heap Higgin. . . . . , ■- It x (appears that . the deceased met George ■ Dewo,. ,-who was driving a large, ■motor lorry, ~atv -Paekakariki, - and asked him’for a ride into Wellington.. l - The request was ’ acceded to, and '• while the motor, lorry was proceeding along the Tawa Flat road a motor-car Was met. Dewe pulled his motor lorry on to the grass at the side of the road, in order to let ,the‘ motor-car pass, .. The lorry was carrying a heavy load of wool, .and tho weight caused the' bank to give way.-. , The .motor lorry, plunged over the bank' and, rolling over and over, crashed, on to the riverbed below. hungl Km to ' tllie wheel, . land fortunately'escaped injury. Whenhe had time to look-round, he saw Higgin lying on ' his- back on-the riverbed, Dewe pulled the 'unfortunate man on to t-lto grajvol beach, but h.e had' killed''by. the fall.
