NORWEGIAN 900 G-TON MOTOR SHIP. Another vessel has been added to the number of motor ships in the Norwegian merchant service that are fttted with buizer two-cycle engtheß (states the bhippine World”). This is the motor ship Handicap, which has beeu built to the order ot Messrs. Bruusgoard and Kjosterud, shipowners, of Drammen, Norway, by the Rosenberg Mekauishe Verksted, of Stavanger. The main engines, as well a e auxiliary engines, were constructed ’Vinterthur, Switzerland, by Sulzer Freres Socicte Anonyme. Iho two main engines have each four cylinders of 600 mm. (23.6 in. bore and 1.060 mm. ,41.7 in. stroke, and when running at 100 revolutions pere minute develop together 2700 sh p In addition to the main engines there are auxiliary engines, with a total output of 610 b.h.p. The winches and other deck machinery are fitted with electric drive, current being provided by one of the auxiliary sets. The same auxiliary sets also generate the current necessary for driving the turbo-blowers that are installed to provide the scavenging air for the main engines. The dimensions are: Length, b.p.. 415 ft ; breadth over all, 54ft. 6in.; breadth over shelter deck. o4ft., height to shelter deck. 36ft. Ilin.; draught to summer freeboard, 24ft Bin.; currying ’capacity, ipcludmg lUel, 9000 tons; speed, loaded, 11.15 knots. With the engines for this ship, the total output of the Sulzer two-cycle marine engines delivered to Scatrftnavian countries exceed 22,000 h.p., a proof of their increasing popularity.

The Itegulus is not expected to come off’ the slip until Saturday next. The Kamo is to load at New Plymouth ’. for Wellington about Wednesday. She will bring dairy produce for oversea, transhipment. Duo from Waikokopu to-day, the Ripple is to sail with a load of sleepers for the same port to-morrow. • The Rama is scheduled to sail this evening for the Chatham Islands, and is expected to return to Wellington on Sunday next. The Ngatoro left Lyttelton on Saturday for Greymouth, where she is to load for the former port and Wellington.

The White Star line has qrranged for three pleasure cruises to the West Indies in January, February, and March iot next year by the Megantic. It has also planned two special trips from New York to the Mcditeranean by the liner Adriatic. The Waipori is set down to sail to-day for Greymouth, where she will load for Wellington. The Jchn is expected to arrive from Wanganui to-morrow. The Calm is timed to sail to-day for Wanganui from which port she will return to Wellington on Wednesday to load for the south.

The Kahika, with general cargo from Bluff, Dunedin, Oainaru, Timaru, and Lyttelton. arrived at Wellington yesterday. The vessel will sail for New Plymouth to-day, taking cargo. The Komata arrived from Westport yesterday, and is to sail on the return voyage to-morrow. It is reported that the ship-repairing works of Messrs. Yarrow, Ltd., British Columbia, have unclerbid the "shops” of San Francisco for tfi’e overhaul of the lig tanker Caddo, and that the ship is now on her way to tho dry dock at Dsquimault. This contract, observes an American paper, is quite a feather in the cap for British Columbia industry, as the Caddo was a San Francisco vessel, and. the biggest yards at that port tendered, for the job. x The Kini should arrive at Wellington to-day from Onehunga. After replenishing her bunkers, the vessel will sail ion Picton to load for Onehunga. The Waimea is due at Wellington from Wanganui to-morrow, and will sail later in the day for Nelson and Coast.
