RACING IN ENGLAND DERBY CUP WON BY AYMESTRY. CReo. November'' 20, 5.5 p.m.) London, November 19. 'The following was the result of the race for tho DERBY CUP, of 1325 sovs. One mile and three-quarters. Aymestry, by Corcyra.—Espoir Dore ... 1 Willonyn, by Willonyx—Rue Time ... 2 Riverside Fairy, by Poet laureate— Kilgobbin Maid 3 This was the only important handicap of ths season won by the first favourite. Aymestry boat Willonyn by a head. His victory was due to a powerful effort by Lynch, who rodo Milonko, the winner of tho Cambridgeshire Stakes. A ro-

mantic feature of Aymestry’s success is the fact that the horse changed hands a few days ago, recalling the parallel case of Galigula, tho winner of the 1920 St. Leger.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.

NOTES AND COMMENTS By Glbncob. Owners are given a reminder that acceptances for the Feilding meeting close ic-uight. The Ashhurst meeting takes place on Wednesday. The first event is timed to start at 11.45 a.m. Entries for all events at the Manawatu Racing Club's summer meeting ciose on Friday next. Nominations for tho Dannevirko meeting are due on Friday. Apparently there is still plenty of money in Auckland for pleasure purposes. On Saturday the Otahuhu r l rotting Club had an increase in i’s tctalisator turnover Of, roughly, .£9OOO compared with the opening day twelve months ago. Viyolla (Absurd—Snooze) has not turned out es well as was , expected, and it is probable that she’’will shortly be returned to her owner. General Advance, who credited Mr. R. Acton Adams with the Winton Cup, of 500 sovs., on Saturday, is paying his way well this season, as he has also scored -at Avondale and Wingatui in open welters. The son of Advance is a well-grown six-year-old gelding, and it is his owner’s intention to race him over hurdles next winter. Though tho cablegrams rid not mention it. there is every probability that the ex-New Zealander H. R. Cairns rode Tangalooma when the Linacre geldins scored in the Williamstown Cup, as he ■was in the saddle when ho scored in the October Stakes at Caulfield and also in the C.B. Fisher Plate at Flemington. In the first-named race he downed a hot favourite in his stable mate Eurythmic, and the Press representatives declared that it was solely due to Cairns’s fine horsemanship that the champion was beaten. Cairns, who has been in the saddle for many years, retains his form in* a wonderful manner, and ha is not likely to want for mounts at Ellerslie nt Cup time. With Rational and Gloaming engaged in the Feilding Stakes, there is every likelihood of a ojod contest on November 30. The Welkin gelding will require to be at the top of his form if he is to defeat Rational, who is very well at present. Opiate, the half-brother to Bon Reye. who has yet to win a race, is to be tried over hurdles, and will make his first anpearance as a jumper ’n the Hack Hurdles nt Ashhurst on Wednesday.

As S. Walls is at present laid aside with a broken collarbone, another, rider will have to be found for Te Maire at Ashhurst. Probably L. G. Morris, who regularly schools tho bay gelding at Mnrton, will he given the mount. When well in the lend in the strnight in the V.R.C. Derby. R. Lewis on Furious, had a look round nt the rest of the field. For performing the ’‘Mrs. Lot" trick again when riding Furious in the Oaks, Lewis incurred iho displeasure of the stipendiary stewards, and was fined £5. ’ His successes on Furious were his second V.R.C. Derby and Oaks’ doubles, as he rode Carlita when she won those races in 1914.

Authorities differ '•oncerning Sister Olive’s Melbourne Cnp win, but the consensus of opinion is that she wMs lucky to win; indeed, one Australian sporting writer goes eo far as to say he would lay the same liberal odds against her if the race was run over again. Eurythmic. with five furlongs to go, was in a good position, and going great guns, when misfortune cvertook him and he rapidly went hack, to last place. His trainer has announced that the injuries are less serious than they were thought to be. and, all being well the chestnut will be on hand again, in the autumn.

TROTTING OTAHUHU SPRING MEETING. By Telegraph—Special Correspondent. Auckland, November 19. Ths Otahuhu Trotting Club was favoured with splendid weather for tho first day of its spring meeting. There was a very large attendance. The Jellicoe Handicap was a most interesting race. Prize Pearl was the first to show out in front,, closely followed by Thixendale (the favourite) and First Carbine. This order was preserved for a mile and a half, when First Carbine ran into second place, and Gold Girl b?gan to move up at u great pace. First Carbine took charge a quarter of a mile from home, with Gold Girl in close pursuit. These two fought out a great finish, First Carbine lasting long enough to win by a neck from Gold Girl, with Thixendale third and Kewpie fourth. The Tramway Handicap was won by Onyx decisively. She was in a handy position from tht? start, and when heads were turned for home she shot to the front, and was really the only horse in the race. The sum of .£58,167 10s. was put through the totalisator, compared with .£49,227 for the corresponding day last year. DETAILS OF THE RACING. Br referraph.—Press Association.
