ROSE EXHIBITION
f The* Wellington Horticultural Society's rose exhibition will be held at the Town Hall on Wednesday, November 23. Owing to the favourable season, large entries arc anticipated, and the show promises to bo one of the largest held in the city for some time. An attractive schedule has been compiled, .numerous trophies and special prizes are offered for competition. Classes are provided for novice, amateur, and trade growers. Especially interesting classes are those for suburban rose growers, the ladies’ decorated tables, and the everpopular class for growers living within five miles of the General Post Qffice. Schedules may bo obtained from the sec. rctary, Mr. M. W. Thew, care 106 Cuba Street.
Hidden three months in an unfilled water tank of a steamship, 26 emaciated Chinese stowaways Vere recently removed to Ellis Island from a Britisn steamship. The discovery was made by a Customs official searching for contraband liquor and opium.
