WATERED WHISKY
A LICENSEE FINED. By Telegraph—Vre»s Association Dunedin, November 11. Martin Quirk, licensee of the Ocean Bench Hotel, was fined £2O for selling wrongly labelled spirits. “”<1 the same amount for selling watered whisky. The defence was that Quirk had been ill and trusted to a barman, who had since been discharged for dishonest practices The Magistrate. Mr. Bartholomew, said that a publican was personally responsible, like a milk vendor. The publie must he protected, as with other articles of food, particularly in view of the high price of spirits.
