TOY DOGS
t THE ANNUAL SHOW A RECORD ENTRY 1 Toy dogs of divers kinds and colours reigned supreme at the Colosseum I,’ink yesterday. There were Australian terriers (blue, tan, and grey), silky terriers. eulo little Pekingese, proud Pomeranians, and weird Chihuahuas from Mexico, who only weigh 2jlb. when fully grown. Though small in stature, there' was nothing at all wrong with their hums. 'They lifted up their voices and demanded attention, and they got it. The occasion was Iho annual show under (he auspices of the New Zealand Toy Dog Club and the display was easily firn best which has yet boon made here. The entries were a record, and included soirio of the best animals from all parts of the Dominion. Among the outside competitors we're: —Mrs. Addison, of Christchurch, who scored heavily with her champion Pekingese, Wee Wong; and. Mrs. George Lewis, of the same city, whose Pomeranians were much admired. Mrs. Baudi.net, of Wellington, swept fho board with her orange Pomeranian, while Mrs. Phipson showed a promising Pekingese puppy, who should he heard of in the show ring later. The Chihuahuas are about the smallest dogs on earth, and those exhibited by Mrs. Adams attracted a great deal of attention. Tho rink was well patronised throughout the day, and there was another good attendance in the evening. The show was exceptionally well managed by the officials, amongst whom may be mentioned the president (Mr. Percy B. Phipson); the lion, secretary and treasurer' (Mr. S. H. lias tall); and the show managers (Messrs. Barlow Wills and AV. Clarke).
Tho Erickson challenge shield, for the best dog or bitch (any breed), went to Mrs. George Lewis's Pomei-anian Wcybridge Theda. The president’s trophy, for the best opposite'.,sex, to the winner of the Erickson shield, was awarded to Airs. J. J. Addison’s Ch. Wee Wong of Ribblesdalo, a Pekingese. The special for the best puppy, any brood, either sex, went to Mrs. Baudinet’s Pomeranian Wairere Orange Alite. The Pomeranian Fanciers’ trophy, for the best Pomeranian (either sex), was won by Mrs. Lewis’s AVeybridge Theda; The Little Authority' rose bowl, for the best Pomeranian puppy, went to Mrs. Baudinet’s Wairere Orange Mite. Best Pomeranian (over 71b.) was Mr. W. R. Michie’s Eemuera Gold Bar. The special rose' bowl, for tho best North Island-owned miniature Pomeranian, was annexed by Mrs. Baudinet’s Wairere Orange Mite. . The Pekingese Fanciers’ trophy, for the best Pekingese, was won by Mrs. Addison’s Ch. Wee Wong of Ribblesdale. Mrs. P. B. Phipson carried off three specials for tho best Pekingese puppy with Chesney Wold Jum Jum. Mrs. Neale took the gold medal for the best puppy bitch, and Mrs. Clements the special as breeder of tho best Aus-tralasian-bred bitch. The Patricia trophy, for the best Sydney silky terrier, and two specials, went to Miss Howell’s Tho Nut. The special for the best novice terrier dog was awarded ,to Mrs. I’. G. Morgan’s Bairpn Bimbo, while tho prize for the best puppy terrier bitch wont to Air. Billing’s Hnon Gold, and the same owner also took the special for the best brace. The Gilmer trophy, for iho best Australian terrier was won by Airs. Rowell’s Lord Rex, who also was awarded .the special New Zealandbred Australian terrier dog. The trophy for the beet Australian terrier dog (puppy) was secured by Airs. A. R. Rowell’s Lord Rex, while the prize for the best New Zealand-bred Australian terrier bitch went to Airs. G. Lake’s Snooky. Airs. Isaacson’s The Genera) won the special for the best dog or bitch in the novice owners’ class. In the children’s class tho special prize for the best dog or bitch was won by Masters W. D. and A. Arcus’s Darkey. The trophy for the best opposite sex to winner of above award went to Afaster A.
