TRENTHAM RACES

TO-DAY’S PROSPECTS. By Glbncox. The postponed meeting of the Wellington Racing Club is to take place to-day. The heavy winds of the last two days have materially assisted to dry the course, and the going should bo perfect. Racing will commence at noon with tho Roseneath Handicap. The bracket Bumptious and (Jleaborg may get a lot of support, as tho first-named has been in a place twice previously. Morose, runner-up to Epitaph in the Hastings Stakes, may also have a big following. Tho next on the list is the good-looking Alabama, He finished close up in the Wellesley Stakes, and. boro the appearance of a race working a big improvement in him.

Despite his poor public display at Na'pier, Danger Zone will again command attention from backers to-day, when he is to contest the Tarai'ua Handicap. His most formidable opponents may bo Militaire and Stylish Lady, each of whom shaped well on the opening day. Humboldt is also certain of a good following, as the shorter distance today will suit him. The light-weight division includes Red Bob, who was unlucky in his race on Saturday. Tho ten acceptors will all go to the post for the Second Hurdles. The first day’s winner, Dick, lias a substantial rise, and the shorter distance may not enable him to get up in time. Ruddy may be favourite, but ht» may not be able to concede 241 b. to Kipling and Royal Exchange, both of whom will be better for the race on the opening day. The improved going to-day should also suit Sir Fanciful, though ho docs not sewn to show his best form on tho local course. v The biggest field of the day, about seventeen, will face the starter in the Pearce Handicap. Dainty Step will lie a better mure to-day, and Admiral Codrington to also expected to do better over the shorter course. Delight, seems to be coming back to form, and may be one of tho favourites to-day. Blackmail finished very fast in the Shorts Handicap, and will ba well suited by the further distance to-day. Viyella and Deborah will be tho only opponents for the flying Epitaph in the Juvenile Stakes, and their chances ot being successful are not rosy. What promised to be a record field in the Champion Plate will probably dwindle to five runners.' Amythas will have plenty of supporters, and Grotesque may be better backed than Sasa.nof. With the sting out of the ground (lie lastnamed can be depended upon to run one of his best races. A smart field of hacks will contest ths Ruahine Handicap. Celmisia and Mireusonta will both have a big following, ami there will also lx* heavy support tor Stylish Lady, who did not have the best of luck on (ho opening day. Vindictive is an improving horse, and Deucalion will also be in th? T Affectation, winner of the . horts Handicap, has only been raised 111 b. m the Nainai Handicap, and in the absence of Blackmail form will attach many to last Saturday’s winner. Solfanel o. who is making his first appearance at the meeting, will also have a big following.

Tho following nominations have been received for the Horowhenua. American Beauty, Halifax,, ar'. Beloved, Astinomei, bulrush, Simon. Printemps. slul q Ri-d Bob, Sweet Song, Moutoa Ivanoin, Waimatao. Matatna. A Press Association cable message fro Afelbourne states that H. Cairns will flue Lionel Attwill and Tangalooma tohorses have recently had a remarkable string of successes in the Caulfield Ciw, five of the last seven having been won by them. When Lavcndo won in 1915. two other importations m william tho Silent and Cyklon filled the other places, and since then Shepherd King won in 1916, King Ofta in 1918, Lucknow in 1919, and now Violoncello in 1921. Last year, when Eurythmic was the winner, the English horse Accrington was second, and he was the only imported horse in the race.
