Mr. H. E. Holland (Buller) asked the Minister of Public Works whether, pending the amendment to the Stone Quarries Act, he would see that its provisions vvero applied to all public works. Mr. Holland quoted a recent accident in Taranaki, where a workman lost the sight: of both eyes as tho result: of an explosion, and declared that this would never have happened if the man had been properly qualified. He could not have met* with the accident if the Act had been observed. Mr. Coates said that he would be glad to give the matter consideration, .but he was not prepared to say on the spot that he would have tho Act applied to all public works.
