The election of the Legislative Assembly of the first Maltese Parliament resulted in the return of thirteen of the Panzo-vecchian Party, seven Constitutionalists, four National Democrats, and ono Independent. Mr. Howard, leader, of the Panzo-vecchians, is forming a Ministry. —Reuter. [Malta, an island 17 miles long and 91 square miles in area, has a population of nearly a quarter of a million. It was annexed to the British Crown in 1814, under the Treaty of Paris. Letters Patent setting out a Constitution for Malta were issued this year, and provide for an elected Legislature to control purely local affairs. It consists of a Senate (partly nominated) of seventeen members, and a Legislative Assembly of 3? members. The election"is on a proportional representation basis.]
