MURDER AND SUICIDE
ILLICIT WHISKY STILL RAIDED SHERIFF AND ASSISTANT KILLED By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright (Rec. October 25, 1.10 a.m.) New York, October 23. An Orange, Virginia, message states that Walter Ware, a young negro, and a companion, operating an illicit whisky still, shot and killed the sheriff and his assistant, and then barricaded themselves in the barn. They shot and seriously wounded nine men and slightly wounded several others. Ware threatened to shoot his own father, who employed him to surrender. When a posse composed of ex-servicemen set fire to the barn Ware shot himself dead. His companion was burned to death. Tho county and State authorities look extraordinary precautions to. prevent a race riot as a result of the incident. Aus.N.Z Cable Assn.
