JEWELS STOLEN AT HATAITAI THIEF CUTS HOLE IN WINDOW KELBURN HOUSE VISITED Three fresh cases of burglary are reported. Cutting a hole in a front window with some sharp instrument, a burglar gained admission to a house in Hataitai Road recently, and stole a large quantity of jewels and money. The window in question is, at night, in the full glare of a street lamp, and is quite visible for some distance along the road. Tho owner of the house is Mr. W. R. Boek who resides there with his wife and familv. The burglar got away with a sum of approximately £lO in nwy, and jewellery to tho value of about £BO or’ £9O. According to Mr. Bock, the occupants of the house were not home on tho night of the robbery. They had gone out early, and did not return until about 10.30 o’clock, when they were astounded to see the front door wide open. The hole in the window, through which tho thief was able to put his arm, and thus unlock the catch, was then discovered, and after Mr. Bock had examined jewel cases in the house, the loss was evident. The marauder went through every room in the house. Burglars have been active elsewhere at Hataitai. Another case occurred on Tuesday night last in a house in Waipapa Road. A large quantity of jewellery, tho value of which has not yet been fully ascertained, was stolen, under somewhat similar circumstances to the case mentioned above.
