WAR ON RATS

. REPORT FROM THE CITY ENGINEER. At lost evening’s meeting of the City Council the following report relative to the extermination of rats- in the city was submitted by the city engineer :-r"Tho following is tho arrangement proposed in connection with the extermina-' tion of rats throughout tho city:—The, corporation to advise the public by medium of tho Press that all old and waste material, refuse, and anything likely to harbour rats must be removed; from their promises. Vehicles, with a driver and a man per vehicle, will be told off to collect all such material from privately-, owned premises, and a small fee sufficient to cover the cost of loading and removal to he charged. The amount such fee to he estimated by the sanitary inspectors and others in charge of the work, and to bo on tho following basis:' -2s. for » cubic feet, minimum charge 2s. - Applications for removal of such material to bo made to 'ho chief sanitary inspector’s office, giving correct address. All charges are to be paid before tho work is undertaken. Material io be con--voyed to the tip at John Street or such other lip as may be established or direct-. cd. Until the rush of work anticipated has been well advanced, the sanitary inspectors to make this their most im- ■ portant duty. Sanitary inspectors to be j furnished with receipt hooks for col- , keting the amount to be charged in eac.i case."
