LONG-LIVED BRITISH ENGINES
Many examples have come to light of British engines which have been at work from the very earliest days of steam engineering. The Science Museum in London has recently placed among its exhibits a pumping engine made in the year 1791 by Newcomen. This engine was nt. work until tho year 1915 at a colliery near Derby. Another engine which was made in the early part of the 19th century has also been presented to the museum. Both engines are still capable of doing useful work, although they represent pioneer types very different from the Britisn steam engines of to-day.
