LAR-RIKINISM AT PALMERSTON NORTH. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Palmerston North, October 11. For tha-past two or three years com-J plaints have been reaching the police inPalmerston North to the effect that bands ] of larrikins were annoying Chinese rest-, dents, but until recently there was no-, thing’ definite to work on. However, on, the night of August 21 it was reported 1 that several windows had been wilfully; broken in different premises occupied by. Chinese, and tho result was the appearance of five .young fellows in the Magis-, trato's Court yesterday on charges ot; havin" done wilful damage. Dudley, Vile, Charles Lane, David Wilds, Alfred, Mabey, and Leslie Freeman were each’ charged with breaking two window panes 1 valued at *22 2s. 6d., in tho laundry of,, Woh Lee Vile and Lane were also charged with breaking « nrindow, valued) at A2 7s. 6d., the property of Sam Lee,, and with breaking a plateglass window., valued at A 24, in another ehop occupied. evidence it was gathered that; the young fellows were all under, the in-, fluence of liquor, and had visited an; hotel after hours. On leaving there some) of tho party first interfered with a -o-, ligious meeting, and then set the intention of baiting the Cinnamen . That they had used brickbats to smash the windows was evident when these, missiles wero produced ui court.
