VITAL STATISTICS FOR SEPTEMBER

The Dominion’s vital statistics for the month of September show that the births registered in the four principal urban areas totalled 750, as against <GO in August—a decrease of 10. The deaths in September were 38fi—a decrease of 43, as compared with tho previous month. Of the total deaths, 218 were of males and 168 of females. Forty-seven of the deaths were of children, under five years of age, being 12.18 per cent, of the whole number. Fifty-four of these wore under one year of age. The death rate per 1000 of population in Wellington city was 0.89 and In the Wellington urban area 0.90. The deaths of 192 persons of 65 years and upwards were registered for the thirteen principal urban arons during tho post month, as against 229 in the previous month. Thor© wore 15 deaths from influenza in the thirteen urban districts) 87 from tuberculosis; 42 from cancer; seven from acute bronchitis; 16 from chronic bronchitis; 11 from bron-cbo-pnoumonia, and 39 from pneumonia.
