SCOTTISH HARRIERS’ CLUB
PRESENTATION OF PRIZES. The annual social of tho Scottish Harriers’ Club was hold in tho Scottish Hall on Wednesday evening, and proved a most enjoyable function. During the evening thb prizes won during the season were presented by Mr. R. W. M'Viliy, president of the club. In making the presentations, Mr. M'Viliy traced the history of tho club from its inception in 1915, and congratulated tho club on the splendid revival during the past year. He referred to tho decimation in tho club’s ranks caused by tho war, and particularly deplored the loss of the club’s first champion, the late “Bob” Ballantyne, who was wounded at Passchondaele, invalided homo, nnd succumbed during tho influenza epidemic. 'l’ho prize-list is as follows:—► Novice Handicap (gold medal,’presented bv Mr. W. J. Walker)—A. Page, 1: W. Melrose. 2 (club trophy). Three miles sealed handicap (trophy presented bv Mr. J. Fraser) —L. F. Dawkins, 1; W. Melrose, 2 (club trophy). Ballantyne Memorial Cup (cup presented by Mr. W. Ballantyne, ~mr . also miniature cup presented by Mr. J. O’Neill)—W. Melrose, 1; J. Sounness. 2. Lady’s bracelet race (bracelet presented by the Hon. T. W. Hislop)—E. Day, 1; J. Sounness. 2 (club trophy;. Consolation vac® (trophy presented by Mr. Len. M'Kenzie)—W. Needham, 1; C. Campbell Dawkins, 2 (club trophy). Five miles championship (chib standard gold medal)-A. Page.jl; W. Melrose. 2 (club standard silver medal). Five miles sealed handicap (Mr. T. C. Tumble’s trophy)—J. C. Sounness, 1; 8. Hall. 2 (club trophy). I Points in runs-in (gold medal presented bv Mr. W. Auld)—D. W. Ball, t; J. Knowles-Smith. 2 (club trophy). Attendance badge—W. Needham, W Ballantyne. junr.. and E. Day., In addition, tho championship medal won in 1915 bv the late R. J. Ballantyne wns presented to his father, Mr. W. BMlantyne, sent. Mr. Davies (president of the N.Z - A.A.A.) congratulated the club on ,it» successful season. He stressed the importance of keening the club’s, existence before the public in every way possible, thereby assisting to improve the fortunes of tho club in particular and heal thv amateur eport in general. Mr. Len. M’Kertr.le (a vice-president of the club) also snoke, assuring the club of his whole-hearted support both as an individual and as a member of tho City Council. Musical and elocutionary items were rendered by Messrs. Sutherland and Thomson; dancing items bv Misses Dfear and Needham. Masters Willie and Ronald Brown. The bagpipe music provided by Pipers Small. Miller, and Jolly greatly, added to the pleasure of the funcfollowing committee worked hard to ensure n successful evening:—W. -L ' Melrose (secretary). Mesdames W Ba - lantvne. senr. nnd junr., J.
