THE LATE JOHN SMITH
(To the Editor.) Sir, —In your excellent, article on the late Mr. John Smith there was one error which I desire to correct. The deceased was an honoured' member of tho Loyal Antipodean Lodge of Oddfellows of (he Manchester Unity. Ho was one of the very early members and had filled all responsible positions in that lodge, and was also an able representative as a district officer, nnd also of tho Boa rd 1 of Directors of that order in New Zealand. Ho was a personal friend of mine ns n member of the lodge, nnd a. tower of strength ii’ the order. I had (ho honour of beinir with him on tho previous Mondny nigh, at 1.110 early settlors’ meeting, when he and his brother Robert were together. Although Bro. Smith was somewhat of an invalid he was quite cheerful nt tli.it. meeting. Notwithstanding his great age (81) I, with his brother memlie.is, sincerely mourn our loss and extend our sympathy to his family. —I am, etc., MARK MAXTON, P.G. Greytown, September 30, 1921.
