WAIRARAPA SOUTH COUNTY COUNCIL

, MONTHLY MEETING. From Our Own Correspondent Carterton, September 26. The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa South County Council was held at Carterton on Saturday, Councillor 1. V. Moore (chairman) presiding. The treasurer reported a debit balance on the general account of £l5 <5. Accounts amounting to .£641 7s. 9d. were passed for payment. It was decided to accept the balancesheets as audited, and the clerk was instructed to ■ circulate them. The Assistant Under-Secretary of Public- Works forwarded a Gazette notice consenting to stopping portions of a road in block 111, llungaroa, and block XV, Tiffin Survey District?. Tho Department of Public Health forwarded regulations under section 40 of the Health Act, 1920. dealing with the demolition of buildings. Tho deputy-superintendent of the State Advances Office wrote in respect to an application for a loan of £l6OO for the Makakaka stream bridge, pointing out that consent could not be given until the sanction of the ratepayers had been obtained to the raising of tho money. It was decided that the structure be replaced with timber from the old Waingawa bridge. The Carrington water-race overseer reported that everything was working satisfactorily. Tho Taratahi water-race overseer rejxn’ted, that pigs were permitted to wallow in the races, and some property-owners were illegally using the water for household, purposes. A report was furnished by the special committee appointed to meet tho Carrington settlers in tho water-race area. Tho report was adopted. The council decided to vote the chairman a. sum of £5O to meet his travelling expenses, as he lived within the threemil,e radius, and was not. like other councillors, entitled in tho ordinary expenses. On learning of tho council’s decision, Mr. T. V. Moore said he could not accept the grant in these times of stress and when every available penny was required for roads. He was grateful for tho council’s good wishes. It was resolved that a rpocial meeting of the council be held on Saturday, October 15, to consider the Kalwhata road deviation question. The overseer was deputed to report on the condition of the Hoik! Road. The clerk was instructed to write A. J. Speedy asking on what terms ho would dispose of land for a metal pit at Gladstone. It was decided to write Mr. Goodin, of Park Road, with the object of purchasing an additional half-acre to extend a metal pit. A bad corner near tho Parkvale Post Office Is to be attended to.
